I recently had my gas tank re-painted after the paint started peeling up round the gas cap.
Since then I have ridden approx 5000 miles and worn out 2 petcocks. Also have constant muck in the Mikuni HSR45 carb float chamber despite having a filter on the petcock and an inline fuel filter.
Before I used the freshly painted tank I flushed it multiple times with Phosphoric acid, then water about 4 times, then acetone. and refilled with gas over 100 times. So why do I still have what seems to be abrasive bondo dust in the tank and what can I do to get rid of it that I havnt already tried. The petcocks I have been using are from Milwalkee and rely on the fit of the brass spindle in the body which wears after about 3 weeks and then I cant turn gas off. I am about to try a standard petcock with a viton seal to see if that is more successful, but I still have the muck getting into the carb, not to mention it getting into the motor.
Any ideas would be gratefully received, this is a daily rider.
